A downloadable project

Game Jam #1 for us at least (as I expect it to be for many others). Just means there's all the more to learn from. So, be nice will you?

Game Overview:
In "Bodyguard Door" (working title), your job is to pretect the monarch by opening and closing the door to their chambers (by pressing the spacebar).
Seems simple, doesn't it? Well it is!
Work to acheive the highest score you can by allowing civilians to have their audiences with their ruler while also ensuring that the monarch isn't robbed, taken hostage or assassinated by hostile forces who may try and catch you slacking! Be careful though, the monarch enjoys meeting their subjects and refusing too many civilians may also cost you your job.
"Oh, and make sure to steer clear of the door itself. Last time I heard someone got caught in it closing... well... They aren't around anymore..."

Game state:
As mentioned in the listing, this ended up as a prototype. Within the zip file there should be the latest version of the game logic file. Given how development has gone, this is still in the c++ format, and hasn't been converted to an executable. Unfortunately, no visuals exist in any state to be provided as multiple concepts for the art have been killed early to mid development.

Ultimately, the game hasn't been shipped. We're only able to provide what we have (and it doesn't seem like there'll be abnything else to come). Still, it was an experience to learn from. Hopefully with a bit more flexibility in schedules and more dev time, the next game can be shipped at least as a prototype.

Install instructions

Unfortunately there isn't a full game to download. However, if you wish to see what we do have here, just download the zip file and extract the files.

You'll need a code editor to view the game logic (I personally use VS Code, but anything that can handle .cpp files will do!) as it is still in the .cpp as the game never made it to a point of usable assets not .exe stages.

TBH, unless your here as an academic, there probably isn't much for you.

To pre-empt the obvious: yes, this got nowhere near to shipping. Ultimately there isn't much to review (and that which can be is technical which may not suit everyone's skill set).

So, sorry if you were hoping for something to actually play and review, but this is what the project ended up as. Just means there's a lot of project management to improve on.

If for some wierd reason you are still interested in how things got to how they are; I may yet make a post mortem vid. No guarantees that it'll exist nor that I'll link it here. But, maybe.. :3
